In recent years, the Finnish sports system has been characterised most prominently by
change. In 2008, a reform regarding elite sports was realised, and four year later, a reform
leading to the abolishment of sports’ central organisations (Young Finland Association,
Finnish Sports Federation and Finnish Sport for All Association) and the establishment
of a new one (Finnish Sports Confederation, Valo) took place. These organisational
changes between 2008 and 2015 form the interpretative framework of this study.
The Ph.D. dissertation by Kati Lehtonen examines, from a structural theory perspective, the change in the Finnish sports system within the reference framework of central organisations and the state sports administration.
Dissertation can be read online in Finnish, abstract is in English.
